She may have to return $680K from trashed lottery ticket

It is amazing how many of the commenters to this article are legal experts. I am fairly certain that not one of them has read the judge's opinion, reviewed the statutes cited therein, or read any of the cases relied upon. But I guess "finders keepers" trumps any law that might have been applied.
Democrats eager to make Romney poster boy for 'Buffett Rule'
Wed Jan 25, 2012
Just an observation regarding the statement that Romney's tax rate is less than that of the average American: His quoted rate of about 14% is the "effective rate", meaning dividing his total tax liability by his total income.
Bin Laden sons say US broke international law
Tue May 10, 2011
I have to reply in defense of Jherek Carnelian. The argument is not that we should feel sympathy for Omar bin Laden. The argument is that the United States of America stands for VERY IMPORTANT PRINCIPLES, and one of those principles is due process and another is a fair trial.
Organs from inmates? That idea should be DOA
Thu Apr 21, 2011
There is a true ethical problem of coercion in the case of inmates who did not previously indicate a desire to donate. Given how little control they have over their lives, controling their organs may be one of the few outlets available to them.
Analysis: The death of Roe v. Wade

Truth Sleuth, you are correct in raising the legal concept of personhood, but that is not the end of the debate. What the anti-abortion people are saying (though inelegantly), is the biological fact of a fetus being alive should be credited with the legal fact of personhood.
UN staff killed in Afghan protest over Quran burning in US

But by that logic the "line drawers" get to rule the world! Just announce that you are going to kill innocents whenever someone does something you don't like, and then sit back and wait for that "line" to be crossed. The proper response is what the Dutch did after the cartoonist was murdered.
If it's solvent until 2037, why pick on Social Security?
Thu Mar 10, 2011
"1. an auto mechanic or nurse making $40K/yr pays in 6.2%, while 2. a lawyer making $400K/yr pays in only 1.66%, 3. a mediocre MLB player making $5Meg/yr pays in .132% (that's POINT 132%), and finally 4. a hedge fund manager making $30Meg/yr pays only .022%." This all may be true, but it also reflec …
Agree or disagree: Pickets by anti-gay church members outside military funerals are free speech protected by the First Amendment
Wed Mar 2, 2011
All you critics of the SC's ruling, please show me your Constitutional Law credentials. Only then will I listen to your ravings.
High court rules for military funeral protesters
Wed Mar 2, 2011
Sure they did. What were the Founding Fathers using their Freedom of Speeach to do? Start a rebellion, overthrow the King (who sat on the throne by Divine Right, no less), and incite a war that caused thousands of deaths.
S.I. swimsuit cover 'a dream come true' for model
Tue Feb 15, 2011
I understood her "dream come true" comment to mean it is her dream to be famous and successful in her chosen career, and oh yeah, rich, and therefore making the SI cover was a very important step and likely launch pad towards that dream.
